2017 Audi S4

The new 2017 Audi S4 has been presented at this year’s Frankfurt Motor Show and our first impression is frankly, very positive. The new version represents a solid combination of classic Audi design and luxury with more powerful engine. This sedan will be based on A4 model, and interested people can expect a revamped interior, modern tech features and also a car that is more efficient in regard to previous generation. With its dynamic handling and upgraded features, and we cannot forget that the new S4 is quicker than ever, this sedan is prepared for the battle on the market with serious rivals such as 2015 BMW 335i M and also a very good automobile, 2016 Mercedes-Benz C450 AMG 4MATIC.

2017 Audi S4 Redesign

From the outside, the new 2017 Audi S4 comes with more aggressive exterior design thanks to its sharper body features and more dynamic lines, and its sporty appearance will definitely please potential buyers. It will be slightly larger than the previous version, there is also new headlamps and LED lighting is standard, and we cannot forget the 18-inch alloy wheels. Up front, exterior upgrades include redesigned grille and a slightly revised hood. Other modifications that must be mentioned are aluminum-look mirror caps and black window trim is also part of the exterior design. Beside that, the new model will have revised side skirts.

The interior of the new 2017 Audi S4 provides, without exaggeration, maximum comfort to the driver and other four occupants thanks to its sport seats. These seats combine Nappa leather and Alcantara upholstery and, like we said, driving pleasure is guaranteed. Inside the cabin we are able to find a new 8.3-inch color display along with the MMI Navigation Plus infotainment system. This system includes WiFi, navigation and touch capability. That is not all because free-text search function and LTE connectivity are also available. Users will be satisfied with the Bang & Olufsen premium audio system with 3D sound and its safety is going to be secured with adaptive cruise control, park assist, exit warning and traffic jam assist is also on offer.

Under the bonnet of the new 2017 Audi S4 we are able to find a 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 engine. The engine of this sedan generates 354 horses and 369 lb-ft of torque, and it will be equipped with an eight-speed automatic transmission. All-wheel-drive is something that is standard and the car sprints from 0-62 miles per hour in 4.7 seconds. Fuel economy is improved, according to the manufacturer, and its maximum speed is 155 miles per hour (250 KM/H).

2017 Audi S4 Release Date and Price

The new 2017 Audi S4 will hit the market next year (2016) as a 2017 model and the price of the previous version was between $48,400 and $54,300. As for the 2017 model, the price is yet to be announced, but in our opinion, we cannot expect drastic changes in regards to the price of its predecessor.

2017 Audi S4 Release Date, Review and Info

Offering a confident, well-appointed cabin, understated styling, and a refined performance, the Audi S4 for 2017 is arguably a top choice for anyone searching for a nimble luxury sport sedan with a little extra kick. Its release date should be expected during the second half of 2016.

Some of the defining features for 2017 include an accommodating backseat, a standard AWD system, a smooth and strong supercharged V6 engine, an uptown interior, a compliant ride, and a dynamic handling. Otherwise, the 2017 S4 returns almost unchanged.

The thrilling and spirited S4 sport sedan is actually a combination of an extra shot of performance and luxury. Adding that to the upscale performance specs gets you a sporty fun. To put the figures into perspective, the vehicle comes with a V6 supercharged engine rated at a dizzying 333 hp, which represents about fifty percent more output than that of the A4.

The car’s performance is taken a notch higher by the dual-clutch automated manual system. More so, Audi also provided the A4 with a sport-tuned suspension system which gives the S4 a multitude of performance upgrades like upgraded brakes, sharp, and nimble handling.

What’s more. It comes with a high-quality interior, commendable ride quality, tons of sporting hardware for the sporting enthusiasts, a relatively spacious backseat, and lots of exterior tweaks. This isn’t a car for everyone though, it is meant for people who are looking for elegance, class, and an appealing ride quality.

More can be said about how the S4 is spectacular, however not everything is a bed of roses. Some of the downsides include an unintuitive MMI layout interface, no USB port, and an optional Bluetooth audio system for the Premium Plus trim.

Available Trims – Audi S4

This performance-themed version is available in only two well-equipped trims: the base Premium Plus and the top-of-the-line Prestige trim.

Interior Changes & Exterior Review – 2017 Audi S4

The base S4 Premium Plus trim comes equipped with automatic climate control, selectable drive controls, foglights, keyless ignition and entry, leather and simulated-suede upholstery, LED running lights, summer performance 18” wheels’ tires, eight-way heated power front seats, automatic wipers, automatic climate control (tri-zone), memory driver settings, auto-dimming mirrors, a 60/40-split reclining and folding aft seatbacks, Bluetooth audio connectivity, automatic wipers, and LED taillights.

Entertainment features include a premium sound system, satellite radio, a 6.5” touchscreen display, a CD player, Audi’s propriety digital music interface, and the MMI infotainment system.

The S4 Prestige package offers a navigations system, Audi Connect telematics, voice controls, a 7” display, rear parking sensors, a premium Bang & Olufsen sound system, adaptive headlights, Bluetooth audio connectivity, a blind-spot monitor, and a driver color information center.

Options available for the Premium Plus trim includes rear side airbags, premium leather upholstery, a rear sport torque differential, body-color paint, gloss black exterior trim, 19” dark grey wheels, adaptive steering, and adaptive cruise control.

Engine Specs – 2017 Audi S4

The new Audi S4 2017 comes with a 3.0L V6 Supercharged V6 engine good for 325 pounds of torque and 333 horsepower. The 6-speed manual transmission system is default, as is the all-wheel-drive system. You can also opt for the S-tronic system.

Enhancing the at-the-limit handling by distribution of torque in between the aft wheels is the available sport differential system. This also helps the cornering line which results in the aft wheels adjusting rapidly.

During our own test drive, the Audi S4 was able to accelerate from 0-60 mph in just 4.9 seconds. That’s actually an impressive sprint to 60 mph but both the C400 and 340i do much better. Sauntering to the same acceleration but in 4.5 seconds is an automated manual system.

EPA fuel economy ratings stand at 17/26/20 mpg in the city/highway/combined, and 18/28/21 mpg with the S tronic.

Some of the standard safety features available include a rearview camera, rear seat airbags, side curtain airbags, stability control, stability control, and antilock disc brakes.

Price & Release Date – 2017 Audi S4

You should expect to dig deeper into your pocket by up to an MSRP starting from $49,200. As for the release date, we should expect to see the vehicle in dealerships during the second half of 2016.

2017 Audi S4 Will Rock 354HP Turbo In Quest to Beat BMW 340i and C400 Sport

The new Audi S4 made its glittering debut at the top of the Audi showcar stand last night in Frankfurt. Along with the new E-Tron Quattro EV SUV previewing a future Q6, the 2017 S4 was joined on stage by a "G-Tron" A4 Avant designed to run on CNG. Smart stuff.

The S4 is clearly the closest to buy hands, however, with sales promised "in 2016." This is likely to mean a March 2016 USA arrival at the earliest, and July probable for first orders.

The S4 is Audi's big engine upgrade from launch. The A4 TFSI power output is a fairly basic ~252 ponies, so the S4 is aligned with top 3 Series and C-Classes. Cars like the new 340i or C450 AMG Sport, a medium-hot variant between the C400 and C63.

The S4's powertrain is not huge on paper, but will be potent in real life. A new twin-turbo V6 makes 354HP and 368-pound-feet of torque. That huge lump of torque arrives from just 1300 RPM, which is one of the lowest torque plateaus we have ever seen!

A sport differential with torque vectoring is on the spec sheets for the S4 in 2017, as is a newly-adjustable quattro AWD system. Dynamic torque splits in the S4 can send up to 70-percent of the power to the front, and a whopping 85-percent to the back (depending on conditions.) That is much more rear torque than is normal for the default quattro torque split of 50:50 front/rear. (40:60 on some models).

The looks, as on the normal 2017 A4 S-Lines seen so far, are a mixed bag. There are cool treats like the new LED design, slightly longer and A6-ish roofline, and the quad pipes for the S4 out back. But otherwise, this new S4 will not turn many heads. Its lower ride height and bigger wheels will be very special versus base A4 sedans, however, versus the loaded models seen so far.

260 kW (354 hp), 0 to 100 km/h (0 to 62 mph) in 4.7 seconds – Audi launches the new S4* and S4 Avant* at the IAA in Frankfurt am Main. The top models from the A4 series are ahead of the competition – with intelligent lightweight design, powerful engines, and an extensive package of the latest technologies.

“At Audi, we have more than 20 years of expertise in developing our sporty S models,” says Professor Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg, Member of the Audi Board of Management for Technical Development. “From day one, our formula for success has been a combination of outstanding quattro performance, restrained design, and state of the art drive train, suspension, and infotainment technology. The new Audi S4 and S4 Avant impressively continue this sporty tradition.”

Lightweight and powerful: the 3.0 TFSI The heart of the S models is a newly developed V6 engine with petrol direct injection and turbocharging. The 3.0 TFSI has an output of 260 kW (354 hp); its 500 Nm (368.8 lb‑ft) of torque is available across a wide range of speeds from 1,300 to 4,500 rpm. The engine outstrips its predecessor in terms of power and torque, while simultaneously offering significantly lower fuel consumption and weight.

The engine can accelerate the Audi S4 from 0 to 100 km/h (0 to 62 mph) in 4.7 seconds, and the electronic limiter kicks in at 250 km/h (155.3 mph). Despite its considerably improved performance, the V6 is extremely efficient. In the NEDC cycle, the S4 Sedan consumes less than 7.4 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers with 170 grams CO2 per kilometer (31.8 US mpg[273.6 g/mi]).

The new eight-speed tiptronic transmission is highly efficient and provides fast, comfortable and spontaneous gear changes. Whenever the driving situation allows, it switches to freewheeling to save fuel.

As on every Audi S model, the power of the 3.0 TFSI is transmitted to the road by quattro permanent all-wheel drive. During normal driving, the selflocking center differential funnels 60 percent of engine torque to the rear axle and 40 percent to the front. Depending on the operating situation, it can distribute up to 70 percent to the front axle or up to 85 percent to the rear. The wheel-selective torque control based on an intelligent software function rounds off the quattro drive train. For dynamic cornering, the wheels on the inside of the bend are slightly braked before they can slip. This makes handling more precise, agile, and stable. A sport differential available as an option improves the handling further by actively distributing the forces between the rear wheels.

Interior Interior Cockpit

Intelligent dynamics: suspension The new Audi S4 and S4 Avant handle corners of all kinds with aplomb – whether on a racetrack or a mountain pass. For fast motorway driving, both models feature impressive straight-line stability. This performance is down to the newly developed suspension. The five-link suspension on the front and rear axle precisely separates the longitudinal and transverse forces, thus ensuring optimum handling in all driving situations. Like the electromechanical power steering, both are designed to be very lightweight. Variable speed-dependent dynamic steering is available as an option.

The standard S sport suspension is 23 millimeters (0.9 in) lower than on the basic model. The ride height is the same with the optional suspension with active damper control. Along with the engine, steering, tiptronic and sport differential, CDC dampers (CDC = continuous damping control) are included in the Audi drive select handling system which comes as standard. This enables the driver to adjust the suspension characteristics in several modes.

The standard 18 inch wheels in 5‑twin-spoke star design roll on 245/40 size tires. A 19‑inch alternative is available from quattro GmbH. Powerful, stable brakes are fitted on the large wheels.

Sporty understatement: design The appearance of the new S4 models is subtly understated. At the front, the Singleframe grille and the accentuated horizontal lines underline the width. The bumpers and air inlets are prominently profiled. Many of the add-on parts are painted in finely graduated matt gray tones, accentuated with chrome trimming at selected points.

The exterior mirror housings in aluminum look are a visual highlight on the clear flowing side lines of the 4.74 meter long S4 (15.6 ft). The strongly profiled sill trims also give both models a striking appearance. On the tailgate, a separating edge provides targeted aerodynamics. The S‑specific rear bumper integrates a black honeycomb grille, an S‑typical diffuser clip, and the four tailpipes of the dual-branch exhaust system. Intelligent composite construction characterizes the body. This makes it exceptionally torsionally rigid, safe, and lightweight. It is the basis for the low unladen weight of the car. The sedan with quattro drive as standard tips the scales at 1,630 kilograms (3593.5 lb), the Avant at 1,675 kilograms (3692.7 lb).

Sporty style: interior The spacious interior can comfortably hold five passengers. The acoustic comfort sets new standards in the class, while the build quality is at a very high level. The Audi S4 Avant provides 505 to 1,510 liters (17.8 to 53.3 cu ft) of luggage space depending on the position of the rear backrests. The S4 Sedan has 480 liters (17.0 cu ft) of luggage capacity in the trunk. The homogeneous styling with broad air vent strip on the instrument panel and integrated air conditioning control panel gives the interior a generous width. In darkness, LED light guides outline the profiles of the doors and the center console.

The S sport seats are covered in a combination of pearl Nappa leather and Alcantara in the colors ebony, rotor gray and magma red. They have adjustable side sections, integrated headrests, and a pneumatic massage function. Typically for an S model, black is the dominant color in the interior. The standard inlays are made of matt brushed aluminum. Details such as the illuminated door sill trims with S4 logos, the embossing in the seats, and the special S4 start screen round off the high quality equipment.

The technical innovations in the interior include the optional Audi virtual cockpit. The fully digital instrument cluster displays all key information on a high‑resolution 12.3 inch screen using detailed graphics. The driver can choose between three views – one of them is an exclusive Sport screen, which moves the rev counter into the center.

The second major innovation on the S4 models is the MMI operating system. Its operating logic is similar to that of the latest smartphones, including the intelligent free text search function.

Prof. Rupert Stadler, Chairman of the Board of Management AUDI AG, next to the Audi A4 Avant g-tron at the Volkswagen Group Night (IAA) in Frankfurt. Drivetrain Drivetrain Drivetrain Tank module with fuel tank and CNG gas tanks

Extensive: infotainment and Audi connect MMI offers the driver three operating methods: voice control, the new multifunction steering wheel, or the terminal on the center console. On the top infotainment system, MMI navigation plus with MMI touch and 8.3 inch monitor, the rotary pushbutton features an integrated touch pad for zooming and scrolling, and for entering characters.

The MMI navigation plus is based on the processing power of the second generation modular infotainment system (MIB). This enables Audi to consistently bring the very latest solutions from consumer electronics into the car.

Alongside the MMI navigation plus, the new S4 and S4 Avant feature the Audi connect hardware module. It provides a high-speed connection to the Internet using the LTE standard. The integrated Wi-Fi hotspot enables passengers to surf and send mail on mobile devices, while the driver can use the online services from the Audi connect portfolio. These include the Audi smartphone interface, which integrates iOS and Android mobile phones.

The Audi phone box links passengers’ smartphones to the on-board aerial. If the phones have the appropriate features, they can be inductively charged at the same time. The Audi tablet is used for flexible rear seat entertainment. Hi‑fi fans can order the Bang & Olufsen Sound System with state-of-the art 3D sound.

Efficient help: the driver assistance systems Both S4 models provide a wide range of driver assistance systems. The predictive efficiency assistant supports the driver in saving fuel, for example with gear change prompts. The Audi active lane assist helps the driver stay in lane. The adaptive cruise control Stop&Go including traffic jam assist can take over acceleration, deceleration, and steering up to 65 km/h (40.4 mph), easing the strain on the driver in heavy flowing traffic. Park assist, cross traffic assist rear, exit warning, collision avoidance assist, turn assist, and the Audi pre sense systems provide important safety features. A camera-based traffic sign recognition system rounds off the range.

Attractive: equipment Even the standard equipment is extensive. In addition to the features already mentioned, for both body versions it includes LED headlights and LED rear lights with dynamic turn signal. The Avant features an electrically controlled tailgate and luggage compartment cover, as well as anodized aluminum roof rails.

The optional equipment available underlines the high-tech nature of the new S models - for example, Matrix LED headlights, head-up display and sensor control for the tailgate on the Audi S4 Avant.

Audi will be supplying the two new S models from 2016.
