The new 2017 Audi A7 is scheduled to be released mid-2017 will get a striking new look and will be geared toward being a sporty, thanks to being wider and lower.

According to Marc Lichte, chief designer at Audi, the second generation A7 work has been completed, and the design is being classed as ‘radical’.

2017 Audi A7 release date

Audi has recently presented the Prologue concept in Los Angeles, and it is this that will determine how the new Audi’s look. The A6, A7 and A8 have all been developed simultaneously, and Lichte says that they will all look different from each other and from other, existing Audi models; the A7 being the most noticeably different. The basis for the fastback is the MLB Evo platform and the engine will come from the next-gen A8.

The car is scheduled to be released mid-2017.

Release date: mid-2017

2017 Audi A7 redesign

This next generation of Audi will be based heavily on the Audi Prologue concept, first shown back on 2014. Although the new car will look sportier and more aggressive thanks in part to the wide, low body.

The new car will get various aerodynamic tweaks, LED lights (front & rear), new fenders and redesigned grille. In the cabin, there will be a new touchscreen media system fitted.

2017 Audi A7 hi-tech equipment

It’s expected that the new A7 will be packed with tech, perhaps even some form of autonomous driver aid also; Audi have been playing with such a system in their test cars. Another great feature will be the navigation service known as ‘Here’, which is also available in the same spec BMW and Mercedes-Benz models.

2017 Audi A7 engines

Under the hood are a range of power-plants, in both gasoline and diesel; 2.0 liter fitted with an electric turbocharging system (326 BHP), 3.0 liter V6 (fitted to the S7) and the flagship V8 in the RS7, producing 575 BHP. There will also be a V6 diesel, producing 350 BHP.

With its all-around performance, beautiful design, and upscale interior, the new 2017 Audi A7 is certainly a desirable luxury car for anyone shopping in the mid-size luxury segment. Its strong selling points include cosseting and quiet interior with top-notch technology, strong acceleration, a handy hatchback trunk, and impressive fuel-economy ratings. Admittedly, the 2015 Audi A7 review we wrote was quite glowing and some of our ardent readers may find it difficult to see how the 2017 A7 may offer anything better. Audi has surprised us yet again with sleek add-ons it has invested on the new A7. It is now more appealing than ever, with its sharper trapezoidal grille and exhaust outlets, reshaped LED headlights, a new rear fascia, and tweaked headlights. Interior wise, the MMI system comes with a faster processing speed over the existing model’s. Also, the USB audio connectivity has been replaced by Audi’s propriety iPod cable. The changes have also seen an improvement in the 3.0L V6 engine output figures.

Other alternatives available in the segment include 2017 Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class, 2017 Porsche Panamera, and 2017 BMW 6 Series. Although no vehicle is a no-brainer in this prominent league, the better styled 2017 Audi A7 might prove difficult to resist its alluring amenities and technologies.

Audi A7 – Available Trims

Just like its 2017 Audi A6 sibling, the A7 is offered in only two trims: 3.0T Premium Plus and Prestige. However, the 2017 Audi RS 7 and 2017 Audi S7 are reviewed separately.

New 2017 Audi A7 Release Date, Specs & Info

The new 2017 Audi A7 has enjoyed quite an impressive run in the segment ever since it was introduced six years ago as a direct rival to the Mercedes-Benz CLS. The exterior design was a radical departure from Audi’s usual lineup. It was basically a BMW A6 but with a hatchback-type-tailgate and a fastback-like roof. The A7 became very popular in its niche owing to the fact that it came with an appealing design, advanced safety features, and an array of engines that also included the V8 engine. In fact, it forced BMW to introduce the 6 Series Gran Coupe. But even with solid rivals nipping its heels, the Audi A7 has managed to wade through the muddy waters of the competition to emerge one of the most sought after premium hatchback.

Some of the reasons that continue to make the new Audi A7 a compelling choice include an impressive fuel economy, top-notch interior materials, and plenty of standard features for the money. On the flipside though, the rear seat space is limited especially for taller passengers. But if you can manage to get past the backseat space foible, you can rest assured that the Audi A7 is a fine choice.

Under the hood of the 2017 Audi A7 Sportback is a powerful 325-horsepower – generating supercharged 3.0L V6 engine that enables the A7 hit 60 mph in just 5.2 seconds and go ahead to reach a top speed of 130 mph. Despite the engine mighty power, the fuel economy ratings for highway cruising stands at 30 mpg – how’s that even possible! Those who’re probably unmoved by such a “meagre” power of the V6 can opt for the Audi S7, which comes with a brawny V8 engine rated at 450 horsepower. Still not enough? Guess what: there’s the Audi RS7 and the Audi RS7 Performance models that send a whopping 560- and 605 horsepower to the wheels. There’re other engines provided albeit not bound for North America.

Interestingly, the 2017 Audi A7 isn’t the only vehicle in its class that gets substantial changes and redesigns, others include the BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe and the Mercedes-Benz CLS. Let’s take a moment and ponder a bit about the Gran Coupe. Just like the model under review, the 6 Series Gran Coupe also hasn’t been in the market for a long time, having only been launched in 2011. It comes with two trims: BMW 640i and BMW 650i. The least powerful model gets a 3.0L inline-six engine capable of cranking out 315 horsepower – a bit less power than that of the A7. Also, it is competitively priced at just the same price as the A7 – $79,500. It’ll be interesting to see how the two outdo each other once available.

2017 Audi A7 Release Date & Price

Here’re the pricing details according to Audi: Audi A7 Prestige – $71,350, Audi A7 Premium Plus – $68,800, and the Audi A7 Competition – $76,550. The high-performance Audi S7 Premium Plus will go for sale for $79,900. Lease deals are also available. As for the release date, expect it sometime in the 1st Q of 2017 – so says Audi.

2017 Audi A7 Exterior

The exterior remains unchanged over that of the previous model – and which we have no qualms with given the excellence of the design language. But even with a superb exterior, BMW still went ahead to add three new colors and new alloy wheel designs. The hotter RS7 and the S7 also get new color additions. The colors in question include Glacier White, Sepang Blue, and Nardo Grey.

Audi A7

2017 Audi A7

Remember the Prologue concept that made its debut in during the 2014 LA Auto Show? Well, our spy photographers have caught up with testing mules that suggest it was a preview of the 2017 Audi A7.

Though the mules were under heavy camouflage, one can tell they are the second-generation Audi A7s. The elegant 5-door Sportback was launched in 2010 and had a mid-cycle refresh in 2014 but now the automaker is set to launch its second generation.

The new 2017 Audi A7 design has been termed as radical which is a first for Audi which is better known for their cabin styling prowess as opposed to outer beauty. Most of Prologue’s design cues will find their way on the A7 as well as the A6 and A8. The vehicle will be based on the 2nd generation MLB chassis.

2017 Audi A7 Exterior

As I said above, the new A7 exterior design is radical. This is good news to Audi lovers. To start with, the vehicle will feature a modified horizontal-shaped single-frame grille. The grille will be flanked by a pair of newly designed LED headlights.

2017 Audi A7 Spy Photo

The Upper and lower front bumpers and rear bumpers will be larger and its intakes will also be bigger to allow the vehicle to sip in more cooling air. Its overhangs will remain untouched though. The vehicle will also feature new and unique exterior lines which will be wider and larger. The lines add to its aesthetic beauty.

The rear will feature new LED taillights and redesigned exhaust tips. The vehicle’s proportions and wheel arches are an indication that the vehicle will be an all wheel drive to the discerning eyes. Overall, the vehicle looks very aerodynamic and will be a hit among the young buyers.

2017 Audi A7 Interior

What Audi lacks on the outside, it compensates on the inside, a fact that has enabled it to remain competitive with their traditional competitors (Mercedes and BMW) who produce better looking designs.

The interior offers occupants a relaxing and comfortable environment. Audi has designed the new cabin to offer optimum efficiency without compromising its comfort levels. Fine leather is the standard upholstery here. A state of the art dual-zone climate control will keep cabin temperatures ideal. The seats are excellently designed to offer plenty of legroom to all occupants.

The dashboard will feature a large touch-screen integrated with the latest software and electronics in the industry. Expect Wi-Fi connectivity, USB ports and wireless Bluetooth to come as standard. The vehicle will also be hooked up with an excellent package of safety features and driving aids including bolstered seatbelts, enhanced airbags, traction and stability control, blind spot monitoring, ABS among others.

We will let you know on more specs of the 2017 A7, once we have more information from the automaker or in case our spy photographers get better shots.

Engine Specs and Performance

A good design goes with an excellent engine. Audi will surely hook up the A7 with new and more potent engines. Though there are no official details at the moment, rumor has it that the vehicle will be offered in three engine options, two petrol units and a diesel engine.

The base models will be powered by a supercharged 3.0 L, V-6 capable of 310 hp and 385 lb-ft of torque. This engine will be mated with an 8-speed automatic transmission system. This engine is expected to hit 0-60 mph in less than 5.5 seconds and a top speed capped at 155 mph.

A diesel engine will also be part of the deal. The unit is a 3.0L turbocharged V-6 which comes good with 240 hp. Those looking for more power can opt for the 4.0 L engine twin-turbocharged V-8. This engine is capable of producing 420 hp and can hit 0-60 mph in 4.5 seconds which is pretty impressive in this class of luxury cars.

Price and release date

The 2017 A7 is expected to hit the market in the summer of 2016. As of now we don’t have any concrete information about the models price. Due to the new additions, the vehicle is likely to start at a cost slightly above its predecessor. As such expect the base price to start above $ 65,000. Higher trims will attract extra cash.

As you would expect, the names of Mercedes and BMW must appear here. The big threat will come from the Mercedes Benz CLS; however, the BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe will also have something to say in this contest.
