Разработкой автомобилей с гибридным приводом занимаются все ведущие мировые производители, демонстрируя всё новые проекты. В рамках 83 Международной Выставки в Женеве дебютировал хэтчбек Audi A3 Sportback e-tron, совмещающий низкие показатели потребления топлива с прекрасной динамикой.

Бензиновый двигатель TFSI объёмом 1,4 литра генерирует мощность 150 лошадиных сил и крутящий момент 250 Нм. Его возможности дополняет дискообразный электромотор с крутящим моментом 330 Нм и мощностью 75 кВт, интегрированный в 6-ступенчатую коробку передач e-S tronic. Уже с самого начала движения весь крутящий момент электродвигателя передаётся на переднюю ось, а с 1750 до 4000 об/мин свои максимальные тяговые возможности демонстрирует агрегат TFSI.

В результате слаженной работы моторов Audi A3 Sportback e-tron разгоняется до ста километров в час за 7,6 секунды, показывает максимальную скорость 222 км/ч и расходует при этом всего 1,5 литра бензина на сотню. От возможностей ДВС можно отказаться вовсе, перейдя в электрический режим с дальностью хода 50 километров. В этом случае максимальная скорость составит 130 км/ч.

Гибрид Audi A3 Sportback e-tron укомплектован высоковольтной батареей (8,8 кВт) из восьми модулей, которая размещена под задним сидением в алюминиевом корпусе. В оптимальном температурном режиме батарея поддерживается при помощи жидкостной системы охлаждения. Ещё одним несомненным достоинством автомобиля является то, что ВВБ можно заряжать при помощи внешнего зарядного устройства. Процесс занимает примерно 2 с половиной часа, а разъём для подключения разместился на радиаторной решётке под эмблемой Audi. Предусмотрено рекуперативное торможение, тоже пополняющее запас энергии тяговой батареи при торможении.

Автомобиль предусматривает режим движения только на электротяге, только на бензине или совместную работу обоих силовых агрегатов. Но даже электромотор обеспечивает Audi A3 Sportback e-tron бодрый разгон без привлечения возможностей бензинового двигателя. Программы вождения выбираются кнопкой EV, а всю информацию о работе гибридного привода выводит электронная приборная панель, где традиционный тахометр заменил так называемый PowerMeter.

A3 Sportback e-tron является спортивным хэтчбеком, поэтому с первого взгляда не порадует объёмом багажника, равного 280 литрам, однако трансформация салона позволяет увеличить его до 1000 литров. В остальном и по оснащению гибрид не отличается от Audi A3 Sportback с двигателями внутреннего сгорания.

Green Car Congress released this month a very interesting presentation of the Audi A3 Sportback e-tron, which is now entering the U.S. market.

Filip Brabec, Director, Product Management, Audi of America said that the expected fuel economy stands at 83 to 86 MPGe combined (35 to 39 mpg gasoline only) with EPA range of about 16-17 miles.

European plug-in hybrids don’t typically have long all-electric range, because the battery is usually under 10 kWh (8.8 kW in A3 e-tron). All-electric mode is also available up to 80 mph, but can be interrupted with strong acceleration at lower speeds.

Pricing starts at $34,657 after destination charge and $4,168 tax credit is deducted. (MSRP 37,900 +$925 dst)

Energy denisty of the pack isn’t high at some 70 Wh/kg, but the 8.8 kWh pack for the plug-in hybrid Audi used high-power cells to be able deliver high peak power of 75 kW.

“The high-voltage battery has an ideal operating temperature of around 25 ˚C (77 ˚F). It therefore has a liquid cooling system in which four cooling plates regulate the temperature of the eight modules. Cooling is by means of a separate, flexibly controlled low-temperature loop, which also includes the power electronics and charger, as necessary. The Audi A3 Sportback e-tron can generally also be driven solely on electric power in the heat of mid-summer and the below-freezing temperatures of winter.”

Audi recently commenced its big venture of electrifying its entire lineup, and to add new name in the list enters the all new Audi A3 Sportback e-tron 2015, electrified version of Audi A3. It started back in 2010 with the introduction of Audi A1 e-tron and here we are with the moving time curious to know updates in looks and power. Хэтчбек A3 Sportback G-Tron стал частью проекта Audi под названием E-gas. В немецком городе Верльте (Нижняя Саксония) у производителя есть завод по производству синтетического метана, добываемому из недр аналогичного природному газу.

В отличие от природного E-gas является возобновляемым энергоносителем, получаемым при смешивании водорода и углекислого газа. Водород на предприятии получают в результате электролиза воды. Сегодня высокотехнологичный завод может обеспечить топливом 1500 автомобилей Audi A3 Sportback G-Tron при годовом пробеге каждого 15 тысяч километров.

Газовый Audi A3 Sportback G-Tron получил мотор TFSI объёмом 1,4 литра. Двигатель пережил модернизацию, затронувшую турбонаддув, систему впрыска, катализатор и головку блока цилиндров. Газовые баки изготовлены из полимерных материалов, имеют трёхслойную, усиленную эпоксидной смолой конструкцию, и отличаются уменьшенным на 27 килограмм весом по сравнению с обычными аналогами.

Хэтчбек Audi A3 Sportback G-Tron развивает максимальную скорость 190 километров в час и разменивает 100 км/ч за одиннадцать секунд. В среднем немецкий автомобиль потребляет 3,5 килограмма газа на сто километров пробега и выбрасывает в атмосферу 95 грамм СО2 на километр. Audi is working intently to electrify the drivetrain using plug-in hybrid technology. The brand with the four rings is showing the Audi A3 Sportback e-tron at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show. With 150 kW (204 hp) of system power and 350 Nm (258.15 lb-ft) of system torque, sporty performance is guaranteed.

The A3 Sportback e-tron is a true Audi. It sprints from 0 to 100 km/h (62.14 mph) in 7.6 seconds on its way to a top speed of 222 km/h (137.94 mph). According to the ECE standard for plug-in hybrid automobiles, the five-door model consumes on average just 1.5 liters of fuel per 100 km (156.81 US mpg), which corresponds to CO2 emissions of 35 grams per km (56.33 g/mile). In purely electric mode, the Audi A3 Sportback e-tron achieves a top speed of 130 km/h (80.78 mph) with a range of up to 50 km (31.07 miles).

The Audi A3 Sportback e-tron uses the highly efficient concept of a parallel hybrid. The combustion engine is a modified 1.4 TFSI, which develops 110 kW (150 hp) and 250 Nm (184.39 lb-ft) of torque. The TFSI operates in tandem with an electric motor that generates 75 kW and 330 Nm (243.40 lb-ft) of power.

The disc-shaped electric motor is integrated into a newly designed six-speed e-S tronic, which transfers the power to the front wheels. The two powerplants complement each other. The electric motor develops peak torque from start to around 2,000 rpm, and the TFSI's maximum pulling power is available in a range from1,750 to 4,000 rpm.

The Audi A3 Sportback e-tron's energy store is a lithium-ion battery system installed in a space-efficient, crash-protected location in the floor, beneath the rear bench seat. The high-voltage battery, inside a housing made mainly from aluminum, has a capacity of 8.8 kWh. It comprises eight modules with a total of 96 cells.

A liquid cooling system with its own low-temperature circuit keeps the battery in the optimum temperature range. This sophisticated technology is key to the power and stamina of the electric drive unit, which remains available at low ambient temperatures.

The power electronics are housed in the engine compartment of the Audi A3 Sportback e-tron. These convert the direct current from the battery into alternating current to power the motor. The compact unit, with integral DC-DC converter to supply the 12V electrical system shares the same cooling circuit as the battery and charging device.

The charging connection is located behind the four rings in the radiator grille; the charging socket, like the TFSI engine, sports an e-tron badge. The high-voltage battery can be fully charged in around two and a half hours with a 3.6 kW charger. All relevant components within the high-voltage network of the A3 Sportback e-tron have no conductive connections to other parts of the vehicle. In the event of the belt tensioners or airbags being activated in an accident, the system is immediately disconnected from the power supply. The air conditioning compressor has a high-voltage electric drive; an electric auxiliary heater supports the heating function for the interior.

Energy recovery during braking: electrified brake servoThe vacuum brake servo has an additional supply connection served by an electric vacuum pump. The hybrid management is tuned responsively with the electric motor. Up to moderate braking forces the powerful electric motor, now operating as an alternator, supplies most of the retardation and recovers much of the energy expended so that it can be channeled back into the high-voltage battery. The wheel brakes only become active if the driver presses the pedal more forcefully.

The Audi A3 Sportback e-tron can be driven with just the combustion engine, just the electric drive or in hybrid mode. Even in electric mode it offers powerful acceleration without the need to engage the TFSI. The driver can choose to have both powerplants active at the same time ("boosting"). When the driver lets up on the accelerator, they both deactivate temporarily ("gliding"). In this way, engine braking torque is eliminated and efficiency increases.

Three driving programs are selected using the EV button and the e-tron's selector lever. The EV characteristic map covers the electric mode; the D program makes the A3 Sportback e-tron run especially efficiently, and in the S plane it is notably sporty.

The Audi A3 Sportback e-tron display concept supplies precise information of the drivetrain status. The powermeter in the instrument cluster replaces the conventional rev counter and shows overall system power. The instrument cluster also includes a charge status display for the battery. The driver information system's color display and the MMI navigation monitor indicate the power flows in the drivetrain, the operating ranges and the consumption figures for electricity and gasoline.

Audi is planning a whole portfolio of new online services for its electrified vehicles under its Audi connect umbrella policy. These will enable the driver to activate and monitor a whole raft of functions such as charging processes and pre-conditioning of the interior climate conveniently from their smart phone.

Sporty elegance: the interiorThe ergonomic interior of the A3 Sportback e-tron has an uncompromisingly high-quality finish. The interior is finished in Cloudy Gray, with contrasting stitching highlighting the S sport seats. The door sill trims are in aluminum and display e-tron logos; there are also e-tron badges on the gear knob and steering wheel. The trunk capacity is 280 liters (9.89 cubic ft); folding down the rear seats increases this to around 1,000 liters (35.31 cubic ft).

With its Misano Red paint finish, the Audi A3 Sportback e-tron declares its sporty character at the very first glance. Its wheels have the characteristic e-tron design, with a 15-spoke look that evokes turbine blades. The chrome horizontal struts in the single-frame grille and air intake grilles have three-dimensional undulating profiles – another e-tron feature. The rear apron with new diffuser is also specific to the e-tron.

The A3 Sportback e-tron demonstrates its full sporting potential when accelerating, sprinting and cornering at high speed. Its on-road performance is based on its sophisticated chassis, coupled with a low weight for a plug-in hybrid, despite its full range of equipment. Standard features include xenon plus headlights, convenient access, a panoramic tilting sunroof, a lighting package, the driving dynamics system Audi drive select, and MMI radio with extending monitor.

At the Geneva Motor Show, the Audi A3 Sportback e-tron will provide a realistic glimpse into the future of mobility as Audi is planning it. The electrification of the drivetrain, above all using plug-in technology, plays a defining role in the strategy of the brand.

German carmakers seem to be preparing an offensive in plug-in hybrid segment these days.

Audi just introduced its first plug-in model, Audi A3 Sportback E-Tron, which now is available to order for customers in Europe through 410 dealers.

Wayne Griffiths, Head of Sales Germany at AUDI AG stated:

“For Audi, the A3 Sportback e-tron marks another important step toward sustainable individual mobility. Our dealers have had an entirely positive response to the A3 Sportback e-tron, which shows that the combination of efficient drive technology and a sustainable energy source is really what the market is looking for.”

First deliveries of this model are expected this Winter.

In Germany, the basic price starts from €37,900/ almost $51,000 (or €319 a month leasing rate for 36 months).

“The Audi A3 Sportback e-tron brings together a 1.4 TFSI gasoline engine and an electric motor, giving the compact automobile a system output of 150 kW (204 hp). The A3 Sportback e-tron’s fuel consumption in accordance with the NEDC standard for plug-in hybrid vehicles is just 1.5 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers (156.8 US mpg), with CO2 emissions of 35 grams per kilometer (56.3 g/mi). Under electric power alone it has a range of 50 kilometers (31.1 mi), and over 900 kilometers (559.2 mi) in combined mode.”

According to Audi, range is 50 km or 31 miles.  However, at just  8.8 kWh, this must be on the optimistic NEDC cycle. Without energy in battery pack, fuel consumption using just the combustion engine shouldn’t exceed 4.5 l/100km (again probably NEDC).

As an option there is also available a charging station:

“To mark the start of the A3 Sportback e-tron, Audi has additionally put together the attractive “e-tron plus” package. In Germany it includes the charging dock, a cable for public charging points, MMI navigation plus, Audi connect and phone box.”

Introducing this plug-in model forces Audi to build some charging points at dealerships:

“In future, every e-tron dealer will also have at least one charging station that e-tron customers can use, even after their purchase. The Audi A3 Sportback e-tron can be charged quickly via a charging point at the dealership, within the public charging infrastructure or at the customer’s home. For the latter option, Audi offers – in Germany – an individual installation service whereby a technician checks the electrics in the customer’s home, makes any adjustments that may be required and installs the charging dock, which is designed for safe, convenient charging.”

“To ensure that sustainability is not compromised during the at-home charging process, customers in Germany can switch to environmentally friendly electricity, known as Audi energy. With Audi energy, the A3 Sportback e-tron is totally emission-free when operated electrically. All electricity all comes from hydroelectric power stations in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.”
